Drag Me to HellDirected by Sam RaimiAlison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna RaverSam Raimi goes back in Evil Dead zone with his latest horror flick suitably titled Drag Me to Hell. So expecting something hellish won’t be unfair expectation and it deliver laced with black humor. Lohman plays Christine Brown, a loan officer eagerly fighting for assistant manager post. She has a competition at hand with relatively less experienced Stu (Reggie Lee) who is clearly trying to appease his boss by offering Nicks tickets etc. Her boss criticizes her not begin able to make tough decisions. Not long after she is thrown an opportunity when a frighteningly old gypsy woman named Ganush (Lorna Raver) wants Lohman to favor with one more extension on her house loan. Then and there she makes the mistake of denying the extension and so humiliated Ganush puts her under the curse of Lamia which promises three days of living hell and finally taking her to literally there. Without much special effects but relying on old-school film making with buzzing bees in and out of nose and mouth, ghosts attacking in bed, spirits appearing and vanishing in and out of thin air, animal sacrifice, disaster dinner party, inevitable fortune teller, one hilarious séance to trap evil spirit in a goat and to conclude finally in a cemetery digging graves in mud and rain Drag Me to Hell is well paced and filled with enough thrills, scares and distractions to make it entertaining watch. Frankly, I wasn’t scared much but more amused with the craft how Raimi keeps surprising audience with new scare around every corner. This is for horror-flick fans.
