Chloe (2010)

Resist this one

Cast: Julienne Moore, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried
Director: Atom Egoyan

In the age of Emotional Attyachar idea behind Chloe, a remake of french Natalie looks too familiar for a feature film or too obvious. Suspicious girlfriends hiring agents to run a loyalty test on over-friendly boyfriends, crying on TV anchor’s shoulder then confronting them with rage and tears. Movie is in more adult arena. In the film Julianne Moore plays Cathy a gynac and a jealous wife whose husband (Liam) has just missed a surprise b’day party arranged by her. She is hurt and ends up hiring Chloe (Seyfried) a high-class hooker to seduce the husband. Twist in tale comes when Cathy is turned on by the firsthand salacious details of those steamy encounters described by Chloe and ends up sleeping with her. More twists comes our way turning the flick in erotic thriller. Fatal Attraction territory. No matter how hard it tries to be about mysteries of sex, dying attractions and liaisons ends up as pretentious and slightly soft-core pornish. Sample this when Chloe says “I try and find something to love in everybody” (duh!) which is in a way too bad as the same director has given us Sweet Hereafter and Exotica. He tries to artfully shoot beautifully lit nude bodies of its protagonists especially of Amanda Seyfried but in the end the film is trashy disposable diversion. On face Chloe is an expensive and good-looking pitch but when you taste it turns out cheap drink in a shiny bottle.
